The South Carolina Aquarium is one of the most popular USA tourist attractions. Located in Charleston in South Carolina, the South Carolina Aquarium was opened in May, 2000 on the historic Charleston Harbor.

South Carolina Aquarium is the home of over 10,000 plants and animals including river otters, loggerhead sea turtles, alligators, Venus flytraps, great blue herons, hawks, owls, sea horses, jellyfish, pufferfish, and moray eels. In addition, visitors will also get to see horseshoe crabs, starfish, pythons, sea dragons and sharks.

The largest of the exhibits in the Aquarium is The Great Ocean Tank, which extends from the 1st to the 3rd floor of the South Carolina Aquarium. The tank holds about 385,000 gallons of water and contains over 300 marine animals.

The South Carolina Aquarium main intention is to protect and preserve the natural world by exhibiting and caring animals around the world. There are also opportunities to learn about the animals world and do research on them.

Among the animals and fish, visitors will get to see the lovely blue crab, oyster, shrimp, swordfish, triggerfish, red porgy, and spiny lobster and wreck fish. There are more than 60 exhibits at the South Carolina Aquarium which focus on 5 major regions, Mountains, Piedmont, Coastal Plain, Coast, and Ocean. One of the famous exhibits is Sea Turtle Rescue Program.

The Aquarium also operates a Sea Turtle Hospital. Located at Aquarium Wharf, South Carolina Aquarium is thus a one-stop entertainment district complete with fountain walk retail stores, sunset harbor and eco-cruises.
