Philadelphia Zoo, Pennsylvania is located on the west bank of the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. Philadelphia Zoo is the first zoo in the United States of America. The Philadelphia Zoo, Pennsylvania is dedicated towards the breeding and conservation of animals that have been found difficult to breed in captivity.

The Philadelphia Zoo also works with many groups around the world to protect the natural habitats of the animals in their love and care. The zoo comprises 42 acres of land and is home to more than 1,300 animals, many of which are endangered.

The zoo features a children’s zoo, a balloon ride, a paddleboat lake, and many interactive and educational exhibits. In the year 2000, the Zoo opened a new primate exhibit, the PECO Primate Reserve. It features 2.5 acres of indoor and outdoor exhibits with about 10 species of primates, including Sumatran orangutans, lowland gorillas, lemurs, gibbons and langurs.

In 2006, the Philadelphia Zoo opened a new, $20 million big cat exhibit, and Big Cat Falls that will tend to showcase the animals in scenes reminiscent of their natural habitats, and allows visitors to get very close to the tigers and lions. Visitors can also see 12 endangered big cats from all around the world, including 3 new snow leopard cubs, 3 new cougar kittens and a new black jaguar cub.

On June 9, 2008, the oldest African Elephant named, Petal in a United died at the age of 52. Among the features at the Philadelphia Zoo, Pennsylvania, there is the Channel 6 Zoo balloon above the Philadelphia Zoo with the pre-2008 balloon.

The Dodge Rare Animal Conservation Center includes interactive graphics and up-close views of some of the world’s most endangered animals such as the giant Rodrigues fruit bats, naked mole rats, blue-eyed lemurs, and tree-kangaroos.
