National Atomic Museum, New Mexico is the nation’s only congressionally chartered museum of nuclear science and history. National Atomic Museum, New Mexico was formed in 1969 as an intriguing place to learn the story of the Atomic Age from the days of early research of nuclear development through recent peaceful uses of nuclear technology.
Visitors will get a chance to explore how nuclear science continues to influence the world. Both permanent and changing exhibits and displays are held in the National Atomic Museum, New Mexico. Among the popular exhibits that the National Atomic Museum includes are:
- Pioneers of Science including Madame Marie Curie, Albert Einstein and Lise Meitner
- What's Hot, What's Not that explains both naturally occurring and man created radiation
- The Manhattan Project, WW II, and The Cold War
- Waging Peace, the history of Arms Control
- Little Al’s Lab
The museum visitors can also view and photograph the various displays presenting the development of the Atomic Age, including replicas of the world’s first 2 atomic weapons, Little Boy and Fat Man, which were built and used at the end of the Second World War.
Other services provided by the National Atomic Museum in New Mexico feature traveling exhibits, Summer Science Camp, rental program facilities, scientific tour series, and various educational outreach program.
In the spring of 2009, the National Atomic Museum will be transformed into the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History. The new museum will be located in Albuquerque that will help the visitors to get educated on every aspect of nuclear history as well as latest nuclear technology.
