Austin Museum of Art, Texas was established in 1961 as Laguna Gloria Art Museum. The Austin Museum of Art, Texas is Texas’s primary community art museum. The roots of the museum dates back to the year 1943, when Clara Driscoll donated her 1916 lakeside estate in west Austin to be used as a museum to bring pleasure in the admiration of art to the people of Texas.

With regard to the history of Austin Museum of Art, the museum was formed in 1961. The museum presented a range of exhibitions, various educational programs and art classes to the Texans. Shortly thereafter, the Art School was created in the early 1960s. Finally in collaboration with 2 other Austin cultural organizations, the Austin Museum of Art was formed in 1992.

Austin Museum of Art presents an array of art experiences in the most informal, and collaborative spirit of Austin. The Austin Museum of Art, downtown Texas offers informative and informal art experiences oriented towards the interests of a broad general audience.

The centrally located galleries serve as the Museum’s primary exhibition site present whole lot of exhibitions and education programs that showcase an array of 20th century and contemporary art.

The museum also presents a broad range of accessible, interdisciplinary, and hands-on public education programs for school children, families, and adults. The art experiences include gallery tours, performances, talks, and opportunities to respond to the exhibitions.

Austin Museum of Art, Texas’s original home, Laguna Gloria is a monument to the long-standing commitment to the community, offering a unique experience of art, history and nature. Outside the Austin Museum, visitors can relax in the lush 12-acre grounds overlooking Lake Austin and enjoy sculpture and the revitalized historic gardens.
